Faithful Friday: Answered Prayers

07 June 2013

How would you feel if you did everything you could for a person but they never thanked you? If you protected them from harm, fed them when they were hungry, clothed them when they were naked, did things they asked, comforted them when they were sad and gave them great joy - but they never said thank you? I was was thinking about this today as I wrote down some prayers in my journal this week. How often do we ask God for something and fail to give thanks when he delivers? And I know that he does not always deliver in the way we were expecting yet we still owe him a thank you.

I took some time to look back over the journals that I started 390 days ago. In each days' entry I write a section called peaks, pits, praises, and prayers. In the prayers section I talk to God about things I need or that people around me needed whether it be physical, mental or spiritual. I started this as a way to go back to thank God for the things that he has delivered on - but I failed. I rarely look back and I think it's important to recognize your answered prayers. A lot of times we Christians say "I'll praise God in advance" and while that's great and all I think he deserves a special hooray for when he comes through in that exact moment. With that said there are a few things that I want to highlight that God has answered for me or people that I have prayed for over the year.

One a year ago I prayed really hard for God to help us find a nice and affordable apartment in the city. He answered that prayer twice, and now we've been living here for a whole year.

I have prayed for relationships with my Grandmother, Father and Mother in law to be mended. My Father and I have a much better relationship vs the old one which was none existent. We text and talk every so often, my relationship with my mother in law got worst - but God revealed to me that I was not the problem and I could only pray for her and show grace. My relationship with my Grandmother has improved, but I am still challenged with showing grace in all of these relationships.

I was suffering from a knee injury a year ago as well, and prayed for healing. This year I am walking around and feeling 90 percent better. Being hurt and confined to the apartment for the better part of a year was not my ideal situation but it strengthen my relationship with God.

I had a friend who was pregnant at the time I prayed for God to heal her where she was bleeding and worried about miscarriage. Today her baby is healthy and strong he's about 5 months old.

I also was in prayer for one of my friends who wanted to be a mother. It had been many years and she was was not even talking that much about her desire but I could see and feel her pain. I prayed that God would bless her with a child. They adopted my newborn Goddaughter less than 2 months ago.

I prayed to have the courage to open about my faith, to share his goodness and promises with the people around me. Hence this post and this blog.

There are just a few of my answered prayers, so many prayer were answered - some are too personal to share but God has answered so many of them. One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Thessalonians 5:18 Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus, it just reminds that being thankful is important. I also like Psalms 105:1 and I think it's much more fitting for this post it says Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done. So I encourage you to keep track of the things that you pray for - start a prayer journal so that you can not only boast on God's greatness but so you can see it for your self and use those past experience to hold you up in seasons of waiting. There are still many things that I am waiting for answers to but there are many more that he has already answered. I have learned to be more alert and to see that sometimes prayers are answered in ways that I least expect.

Looking through my prayers and seeing how they have come to fruition has really encouraged me to remember God's faithfulness. When I feel like everything is going wrong I can see how much of it has actually gone right. Are there any prayers that God has answered for you recently? I'd be happy to hear about them or to join you in prayer, let me know in the comments below.

  2. This was so refreshing to hear! I know many people out there who sometimes worry that God isn't listening or their prayers will never be answered. This is such a great post for us all! Thank you for sharing this. I also have a tough relationship with my in-laws. I have a really hard time with some things that they do or have done. This is something that I need to pray a little harder about. I pray your relationship grows and strengthens with your family. Have a wonderful day!
